Creating Opportunities Of Kindness

About Us

COOK stands for “Creating Opportunities Of Kindness” and our primary aim is to provide nourishment to those in need through meals that are healthy, well balanced and delicious.

Who are we, and what do we do?

We believe in the irrefutable right to human dignity, and that every person has inherent worth and value. In this vein, we know that a full tummy can create a moment of value and widen access to opportunities. We believe that small acts of kindness can create the environment where people are able to live lives they chose to value, and that it is our responsibility to our country and her people, to be a part of that kindness.

COOK stands for “Creating Opportunities Of Kindness” and our primary aim is to provide nourishment to those in need through meals that are healthy, well balanced and delicious, and to partner with like minded organisations, NPOs and individuals to create opportunities for kindness. COOK is a registered NPC (COOK4KINDNESS NPC 2022/489260/08).

Why does COOK exist?

Hunger in South Africa is a crisis and not one that is going away, in fact for many, it is worsening. Lack of access to food or adequate nutrition negatively impacts millions of South African’s daily, prohibiting people from living lives they chose to value, and from realising their true potential.

We believe that giving just one person one moment of value through a healthy, delicious meal goes a long way towards recognizing our shared humanity and is a step towards restoring dignity. We also believe in creating a platform for individuals and organisations to get involved and to be part of the solution.

Who do we serve?

We serve a minimum of 350 hot meals a week, nourishing the informal settlement of Brecknock (cnr Witkoppen and Main) and a community of waste pickers/recyclers in Alex.

Additional adhoc meals and campaigns such as the reading corner, distribution of school clothing and essentials, sanitary pad distributions, the provision of groceries and winter essentials are provided on a need basis to these communities and other communities in crisis.
